Genetics define your personality, social and parental influence installs it into the environment, and finally your sum of information gathered in the most important years would define your ultimate goals for your life.
Those may be revised by time to time when forgotten or achieved but the very nature of forming new ones would never change because of the basic immutability of human nature.

The way you reach your goals depend on your tools born with or developed by you. And if those only let you to make achievements step by step with incredibly slow and small results you would suffer.

Therefore no one ever dare to say to another : “boy, that was your decision, so deal with it”.
Once again Schopenhauer said well: “We can do what we want, but we can not want what we want.”
